Support received through the Campaign for Douglass: Innovative Education, Women’s Leadership, is enhancing key programs like support for computer science majors through the Douglass Project, Externship opportunities, Leadership opportunities for students, and scholarship support.
Read how these programs are shaping one student’s College journey. Niji Patel ’15, a Business and Information Technology major, shares her story about excelling through the award-winning AADC Extern Program, becoming a Red Pine Ambassador and a Douglass Big/Little Program mentor.
Niji’s Shares Her Story: I wanted more of a sense of community when I enrolled at Rutgers, but the AADC Extern Program was what really caused me to choose Douglass. I’ve had three externships so far. The first was a business development externship in downtown Philadelphia, computerizing data so the company could visually determine what was happening with its business. My extern Sponsor was a Douglass alumna, so we had an immediate connection.
I liked my externship so much that I sought another one right away. The more experience I get, the more I’m able to put the pieces of the puzzle together to figure out what I really want to do in my career. Through these externships, the AADC has played a huge role in my life, and I’m grateful.
Douglass ended up being all I expected, and more. It changed me in a positive way. Now I’m a Red Pine Ambassador and a mentor to a first-year student through the Big/Little Program. I loved taking Douglass’ required Knowledge and Power class, where you’re assigned a peer mentor. It inspired me to become a mentor to someone else.
The Associate Alumnae of Douglass College (AADC) held the public launch of the Campaign for Douglass at a special kick-off reception in New York City in October 2010. It is the most ambitious capital campaign undertaken thus far and benefits Douglass Residential College at Rutgers University. Thank you to all who have supported the Campaign and are helping us exceed our $35 million goal. All alumnae are invited to join in this historic initiative! Learn more at www.campaignfordouglass.org
